Beginning her musical journey when she signed with Federal Records during her teens years, Shirley has gone on to receive eleven Grammys, 15 Dove Awards and 14 Stellar Awards over seven decades as a gospel performer.
She became well known for her profound commitment and contributions to gospel music, birth into a large family with 13 siblings; after the sudden loss of her father at seven months, Caesar held strong bonds with both of her mother’s partially disabled afflictions which required care until 1989 when both passed.
Shirley Caesar has left an indelible mark on gospel music with her many accolades, which include being awarded both the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and an honorary star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shirley Caesar began her incredible journey at just 12, signing with Federal Records. Soon thereafter she sang before friends and family before eventually becoming known as Baby Shirley Caesar. At only 19 she joined The Caravans where she left studies to follow this opportunity before going on her 18-year solo concert tour performing songs such as “Sweeping through the City”.
“No Charge”, her song that garnered her a Grammy award in 1975, became her first gold-certified album. Following this achievement she signed on with Roadshow Records to reach more people; and released “First Lady”, which earned her the nickname of the “First Lady of Gospel Music”.
She also made appearances in films, received Dove Awards and found chart success with “Fill This House”.
