Scarlett Smith of Gonzales, Texas was reported as missing. An Amber Alert was issued. Last seen near West US 90 in Gonzales around 11:00 pm; 5’4″ tall with reddish-hazel eyes.
Barry Van Mersbergen (known as Ben), 22, has been accused of abducting Scarlett. Law enforcement authorities are very worried for Scarlett’s wellbeing and believe she could be immediately threatened. They suspect Scarlett might have been taken hostage.
Barry Van Mersbergen stands six feet two inches, weighs 160 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes; and may possibly have played some part in Scarlett Smith’s disappearance. Police suspect him to be driving a 2012 GMC Terrain Tan with Texas license number 3RVWG when this happened.
