At 45, this rider experienced both cardiorespiratory distress and irreparable neurologic injury when they crashed only 448 kilometers prior to stage 2 starting – no amount of attempts by emergency response could bring back Carles. He passed away as a result.

At only 448 km into his race, 45-year old Carles Falcon of Spain was seriously injured during a Dakar rally crash in Saudi Arabia, just 448 KM after starting it. Although doctors saved him, his injuries were severe. Falcon was an enthusiastic motorbike rider and had completed previous Dakar Rallies as an amateur; always hoping to compete again at some point; Falcon was known for his enthusiasm and energy and always wanted to compete this time round; an expert computer user as well as teaching others how to ride motorbikes himself before becoming injured himself during such races – leaving many friends behind who knew and raced him; all those close by mourned his sudden demise as they experienced his passing were deeply grieved over loss as was Falcon’s sudden absence – both personally as well as those racing against him during races;
