Counter-Strike Global Offensive will officially end by 2024 and has already given way to Counter-Strike 2. Since 2012 when it first hit Steam, CS:GO has seen tremendous success and become one of the most-played esports titles worldwide. At long last, in September 2023 CS2 was revealed – an updated version of CSGO that completely replaced its predecessor title; although CS:GO may continue as an option within CS2, soon this too will no longer exist.

Valve recently made their official support of Counter Strike CS:GO on their Steam Support page and will provide further details in January about its future. While still accessible, certain Game Coordinator features such as player inventories may no longer function correctly – meaning players were no longer able to transfer between CS2 and CS3, as was once possible with inventory transfers; no details have yet been given as to what may come of such changes; Valve did not elaborate further beyond this statement concerning potential impacts beyond these specifics.

Valve recently made it clear that they will no longer support CS:GO after its debut with Counter Strike 2, effectively terminating support on January 1, 2020, for those hoping to keep playing this older version of CSGO. Unfortunately for anyone hoping to continue enjoying it after its introduction with Counter Strike 2.

CS:GO will be gone forever

Valve recently made it known that their game will still be accessible after January 1, 2024; however, functionality (such as accessing inventory) may change or cease altogether.

The Legacy Version will likely remain, though its development team won’t oversee it anymore and thus its usefulness could quickly decrease or become entirely non-functional.

Many players are dismayed at CS2, particularly its inadequate support of older hardware like DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems. This issue becomes especially evident given many players prefer community servers in CS:GO over official matchmaking because these offer unique experiences like scrims and unique retake servers among many others.

Are you craving some classic video games this holiday break? Unfortunately, no servers are currently available; instead you will have to play with bots.

Focus has once more turned back onto Counter-Strike 2, Valve’s updated plans, and community optimism for Counter-Strike to return its former glory. Since Counter-Strike experienced such a difficult launch with player counts declining rapidly following launch day updates; community members remain hopeful that future updates can return their beloved game to prominence.
